Project Description: Innovative Operations Management in Firm level: A Case Study

Project objective:
This project is to have students explore the operations function or a process boundary of any existing manufacturing or service organization of your choice. Using tools and techniques learned in class, the students are required to fully understand the process and evaluate their success factors and/or key concerns.

Project requirement:
At minimum, the following activities should be performed:
¨      Choose a process that qualified for the scope of project. No two groups can work on the same process or in the same organization. The proposed process will be approved on first-come-first-serve basis.
¨      Examples include
o   Supply chain management in ZARA
o   Effective inventory management in TESCO
o   Effective forecasting technique in NIKE
o   JIT system in TOYOTA: applications and implications
¨      Document current operations. Using flowcharts or other process analysis tools with sufficient descriptions, the students must explain the operations activities of the interested process boundary. Specifically inputs, transformation process, output, environmental factors, and performance measures must be identified. Detailed data collection might be necessary.
¨      Identify innovative feature of your case.
¨      Identify key success factors and/or problem or potential areas for improvement.

Documentation & Presentation:
¨      The report and presentation must be professionally done. Any report that seems to be below the instructor’s standard will be rejected. No rework of any kind will be accepted.
¨      The report must be typed in Time New Roman, 11-font size, and single-spaced or equivalent. 
¨      All figures and tables must be clearly labeled and stated clearly in the text section.
¨      The report must not exceed 30 pages in length.
¨      The final project submission package will consist of a hard copy and a CD. The CD should include, at minimum, the final project report, the presentation files, any applicable software files, and any applicable VDO clips. The content of CD must be clearly listed in the report.
¨      20-Mins Free Style Presentation with no more than 20 slides.
¨      1 copy of Hand out of the presentation is required.

Submission Date
¨      Both Report and CD are due on the presentation date.
