Tibetan monks jailed in China for not saving brother who set himself on fire
A Chinese court has sentenced two Tibetan Buddhist monks to prison for assisting in the death of a 16-year-old colleague who set fire to himself in March in protest at heavy-handed state controls on Buddhism.
The official Xinhua news agency said Tsering Tenzin was sentenced to 13 years and Tenchum, who has only one name, to 10 years. Tenchum goes by just one name.
Their sentencing, in the Aba prefecture of Sichuan province, follows an 11-year sentence handed down to another monk accused of hiding Rigzin Phuntsog after he set fire to himself and depriving him of medical attention for 11 hours. He died later in hospital.
